Following on from his divisive comments that the wearing of the Muslim headdress, the burqa, was for him a “fairly confronting form of attire” and that he “frankly wishes (it) wasn’t worn” the Prime Minister Tony Abbott is expected to announce a major policy backflip and has come out swinging in support of the burqa.
While he stressed he previously saw the garment as an outdated and oppressive piece of patriarchal Muslim society, Tony Abbott had the following to say when pressed as to why he was now so pro-burqa; “So far only Africans have gotten sick from Ebola, then they gave it to some white people but no Muslims have been touched! Obviously there’s a reason, and it seems obvious to me the wearing of the burqa is stopping the transmission of the disease, it is about the health and safety of the Australian people and for that reason I will be making it mandatory for every citizen to wear the burqa in public, both men and women, to stop the spread of the Ebola Virus in this great country.”
K-mart has announced it will stock a range of Burqas starting next week when this law comes into effect.
