Hailing from pre-Republic space, the d'Terran family was guarded and deeply interlaced with peoples on multiple solar systems.
Educated from a young age in traditional Starkmani tribal culture and sciences, Ada's parents and tribal elders, in a concerted effort stayed mobile to preserve the information within... from falling into the hands without. Nefantar & Vherikor kin sacrificed and aided the family in staying safe & sound.

Why would such a family be protected? Why would such kin and guardianship go to great lengths to aid?

That is secured information. But suffice it to say that Ada's family were among the first in orbit who pulled the islands out of the sea... Who in deep space detected the subterranean anomalies on a planet... A region which would later be known as The Crystal Desert (For that which was above the ground). a deeply spiritual site for both Matari people and a priority 1 target for religious and weapons research by the equally-spiritually minded Amarr later.

...the clearly badged Destroyer-class Biosecurity Response Ship SORROW was enveloped in heavy NPC friendly-laser fire by Search & Response Affiliate Navy Issue Cruisers. With seconds to live, Ada ejected solo in pod, retreated. Survived. Salvage crews would be deployed to recover & redeem the ship's blown up shell. It has since been restored.
